Lasseters Hotel Casino committing as naming rights sponsor for another three years
Alice Springsʼ Lasseters Camel Cup is an amazing race that is iconic, quirky and its reputation reaches far beyond Northern Territory soil. This yearʼs Lasseters Camel Cup will be held on Saturday 14 July 2012. The family and fundraiser event is well known for its unpredictable and very entertaining camels as well as the brave and crazy riders.
The most unique racing event that Australia has to offer was first held in the dry bed of the Todd River in 1970. Since then it became more and more popular and it is now held at a dedicated 400 metre camel race track at Blatherskite Park. The Lasseters Camel Cup – with camels supplied by Camels Australia, Dennis Orr Camels and Uluru Camel Tours - attracts around 5,000 people from all over the world.
Lasseters Hotel Casino is proud to continue its association with the Camel Cup committing as naming rights sponsor for another three years. “Last yearʼs race was a phenomenal event and we are very proud to be the naming sponsors,” Chris Sartori, Lasseters Hotel Casino Chief Operating Officer said.
Paul Barreau, the chairman of the Lions Club of Alice Springs Camel Cup Committee is pleased to announce that the Apex Club of Central Australia has agreed to take over the running of the Lasseters Camel Cup. Due to the decline in club membership and the ageing of the remaining members, the Lions Club has decided after over 40 years to hand the famous desert race to Apex, an organisation with similar ideals to the Lions Club. “We are sure that the Apex Club will bring new and fresh ideas to the Lasseters Camel Cup,” Paul Barreau said.
“We wanted to ensure that the iconic Camel Cup continues and that the funds the Lions Club have raised over the past 40 years for community groups in need, continues well in the future,” Steve Langdon from Apex said.
“The Lions Club will continue to support the Apex Club with the event for as long as we are able,” Paul Barreau said.
Together with the eventʼs major sponsors – Lasseters Hotel Casino, Power and Water Corporation – Southern Cross Television has come on board as the new TV partner. “We are very excited to be part of this fantastic community and fundraising event for the next 3 years,” Amy Ward from Southern Cross
Television said.
“We look forward to the ʻnewʼ Lasseters Camel Cup and the continued support of the local community,” Paul Barreau said.
This yearʼs Lasseters Camel Cup will be held on Saturday 14 July 2012.
